Afsoon is an Iranian artist. After spending her childhood in Iran and late teens and early twenties in San Francisco, Afsoon settled in London. Afsoon's nomadic life is reflected in her work where East merges with West and the result is at once familiar and foreign. There are several layers in her work and at times Afsoon combines text with images. Afsoon also combines different techniques such as linocuts, photography, collage and etching. The result is a rich yet often playful and humorous tableau in which the audience is able to engage and interpret in its own way.AFSOON
Born in 1961 in Iran, I lived there until
the age of 17. After a brief stay in
the United Kingdom, I moved to the United States where I first finished
high school (1979) and later my BA from Fresno State University (1980-
1984). My degree is in media and communication with the emphasis on
cinematography. Subsequently I worked in an art gallery in San Francisco.
In 1989, after a period of traveling around India, Mexico and Guatemala, I
settled in London. There was a brief stint managing an art book shop in
Soho. The next decade (1991-2001) was dedicated to my family.In the
winter of 2002 I embarked on a journey of re-discovering my artistic
strength. I took part in a number of printmaking work shops and studied
with a variety of established print-makers in London. During this period I
also spent numerous hours experimenting with different techniques of my
own. On the whole I am in many ways and areas, self taught.
