The 6 photographs were taken in 2008, a particularly poignant time in the recent development of Dubai; that year ended up being the apotheosis of its economic and real estate success, started in the last decade of the 20th century. The work was directly inspired by and centres on the Burj Khalifa, now the tallest building in the world. The Burj is the ultimate construction, a totem that comes with a powerful statement: it is the visual representation of Dubai's exponential rise. Yet as a structure, it is simultaneously omnipresent and forever far removed. This paradox is echoed in the multifarious perceptions and opinions of this new world city, a city reclaimed from sea and desert, forever under construction.
