Biography

Alex Gbizié (b.1991 Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire) is an illustrator and painter who studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Abidjan, graduating in 2016. Since 2017, Gbizié has been working as a choreographer of the children’s dance troupe ADONAI, who have inspired him and are central to his work.

Gbizié focuses on childhood, and in particular the joy and carefree experience of being a child. He also explores childhood dreams that were integral to his recollection of growing up, a main source of inspiration, which shines through in his work. Gbizié’s paintings evoke daily life, well-being, solidarity, and fulfilment. They take us back to our childhood memories, offering positivity and hope for a better world.

Pattern is a central characteristic of Gbizié’s work with the lines representative of the paths that our dreams and intimate ambitions take. He uses straight, curved, spiral and broken lines that do not overlap with each other while playing with the thickness of the lines to bring out the shapes and contrasts of the subjects.

Recently, he took part in the “Abidjan Art Fair 2021”, at the Sofitel Hotel / Residence des Arts in Abidjan.
