Biography

Born in 1975, Paul is a self-taught painter of Lebanese and French heritage, with roots tracing back to Armenian descent. Raised in an artistic family, Paul’s journey into the world of art began at the age of 7 when his great aunt introduced him to the intricate techniques of oil painting. His childhood was spent immersed in creativity, dedicating countless hours to sketching and painting his surroundings. Paul explored various mediums, including oil, ink, acrylic, oil sticks, charcoal, and sanguine. As he matured, art became Paul Kupelian’s therapeutic outlet, a means to express his emotions and navigate the complexities of life. His artistic evolution is a visual chronicle of significant events and personal growth, providing him with inner peace and stability.

In 2016, Paul showcased his inaugural exhibition, “Looking at the Bright Side,” at Galerie Janine Rubeiz, which garnered acclaim from art critics and collectors alike.

Paul’s distinctive artistic signature is characterized by a figurative and naive style, utilizing the entire color spectrum to transform his paintings into vibrant, joyous, and dynamic creations. Despite the use of vivid hues, the artist maintains a focus on achieving harmony across the entire canvas. The infectious happiness radiating from his work has the remarkable ability to prompt smiles from viewers.

With a seemingly childlike simplicity, Paul’s execution reveals a profound understanding of proportion, perspective, and intricate details.
