Janet Rady Fine Art presents Soudeh Davoud’s HALF OF ALL, a new collection of feminist paintings highlighting the place of Iranian women in their community today. Online only from 3rd to 30th March.

Soudeh Davoud’s paintings explore Iran’s natural and mythical past. She depicts bright and colourful landscapes such as Mount Bisotoun in the Zagros mountain range of Western Iran, which are the site for mythical poems of undying love by the stone-cutter Farhad for the beautiful Queen Shirin.

Legends such as this, which was also taken up in the epic Persian Shahnameh (“Book of Kings”) and other ancient Sassanian sites such as Taq-e Bustan (“Arch of the Garden”) and Seymareh are the setting for many of Davoud’s pictures, which portray a land of past and present, colour and light, hope and possibility.

In Davoud’s paintings, time seems to stand still as she draws together reality and myth, nature and legend and as she transports the viewer to a surreal land of wonder and unity.
