Brahim Jawabreh
Biography
Born in 1985, in the Aroub Refugee Camp (West Bank) Palestine, Brahim Jawabreh holds a BA in Fine Art from Al-Quds University, Jerusalem. Jawabreh has taken part in several exhibitions, both in Palestine, as well as Cairo, Damascus, Dubai, Tokyo, Boston, Helsinki, London, Paris, Amman, Beirut and Sharjah.
Bringing people into the open in his naïve acrylic paintings, he confronts his audience with an assemblage of clustered archetypal human figures, investigating the relationship between figure and space. In his reductive style, the artist sheds light on the essence of being. His subjects are not passers-by, nor are they merely shadows owned by their leaders. Rejecting a focus on detailed facial features, he stresses the symbolic dimensions behind depicting these people, highlighting their undermined existence, and subsequently – conveying the long-standing Palestinian struggle to be seen. Through these impersonal depictions of the human, Jawabreh additionally evokes the global nature of the humanitarian concern regarding abandonment and displacement – an issue unremitting within the worldwide geo-political landscape today.
