Nazi Azimi
Biography
Nazi Azimi (b. 1977 Tehran, Iran) studied painting at Tehran’s Beaux-Arts and Tehran University. Her works have been shown in Iran and she has participated in exhibitions and festivals in North America, Armenia and Italy.
Nazi Azimi’s practice is deeply involved in the meaning of colour, especially black. As she says “Your interpretation of the color black might be a dress or a dark room or a pit, but for me it means constant movement, release and infinity.” Seeing that all colours die in a mysterious black, yet are borne again of that black, Azimi has a strong affinity with black, and suggests she can she can hear in it calmness and melody. “It has kept my secrets in an unknown world and hidden away from this world. Black accompanies me on all my trips of release, I am never afraid of it.”
