Malika Agueznay

Biography

Malika Agueznay is a pioneering artist known for her contributions to Moroccan modernity and abstraction. She enrolled at the Casablanca School of Fine Arts in 1966, where she explored forms, lines, geometry, and color alongside other influential thinkers. Agueznay’s work gained strength through engraving, which she discovered in 1978 at the Moussem of Asilah. She furthered her technique by studying in New York and Paris, remaining faithful to the teachings of the Casablanca School. Her artwork often features the motif of seaweed, which she has continually renewed over fifty years, exploring its geometric forms and symbolic meanings. Agueznay’s art evokes a sense of balance, enhanced by warm colors and the addition of calligraphy, infusing her work with intense vibrancy.
