Biography

Mohamed Hamidi is regarded as a pioneer of modern art in Morocco. After studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca, he moved to France. In Paris, he immersed himself in the artistic scene, visiting museums and galleries. Upon returning to Morocco, he taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca and participated in the influential “Manifesto” exhibition in Marrakech in 1969. Hamidi’s work primarily explores the human body, pushing its representation towards abstraction. He also draws inspiration from African art and incorporates bright colors into his paintings.
